Incas
Location
Between 1200 and 1538 CE, the Incas lived in South America, their territory stretching from the equator to the Pacific coast of Chile. By the time the Spanish arrived, the Incan Empire stretched approximately 3000 miles! It went from southern Columbia to central Chile.
Their capitol city was Cusco. Fun fact: because they liked jaguars so much, the Incas built Cusco to resemble the tape of a jaguar.

Incan Religion
There are a few things all religions have in common. One of them is a creation story or myth. Watch the video below to learn about what the Incas believed to be the beginning of the earth and their people.
Okay! Let's see how well you listened.
1. Who was Pachacamac? What does his role in the story tell us about his place in the larger Incan religion?
2. What about the story explains how Incan cities were organized?
The god of the sun was clearly very important to the Incas. Like the Aztecs, they believed that the way to please the gods was through human sacrifice.

It was built around 1450 at the height of the Incan Empire as an estate for their emperor. it is sometimes called "The Lost City of the Incas." Machu Picchu is an important tourist attraction.

Agriculture
The Incas developed a very advanced system of farming. They used irrigation--a series of drains and canals--to expand their crop resources.
Tomatoes, potatoes, and peanuts were among the many crops the Incas grew.
They also used llamas, both to transport crops, and as meat.
